One stop shop...your closet!

I hope everyone has recovered from the holiday partying and inaugural celebrations! To keep warm and fashionable during these times i will send you back to your closet...even though this is a time of change, i know women and men are cautiously spending...you can reinvent your wardrobe by separating suits and layering!! Instead of wearing your suit jacket with the matching slacks or skirt, put on a turtleneck underneath the blazer and wear with your favorite jeans..or a colorful a-line or pleated skirt...take those slacks or pencil skirts that match the blazers and wear a bright colorful sweater instead...you thought you would never wear that sweater your mom got you for x-mas! don't forget that scarf as an accessory ;) also slide on a medium or skinny belt over top of the blazer and sweater to finish the look....if you decide to wear a scarf, try to tuck the scarf under the belt if you wear it around your neck...everyone has these items in their closet...check behind the hamper or on that top shelf! i also love the look of wearing a plain t-shirt over a voluminous blouse...with the bell sleeves...very chic...try it, take a pic and send it to me...would love to see how it looks!!

To the Knee to Boot!

Knee high boots are becoming a silent phenomenon..and flat ones to boot! Riding boots specifically are walking the streets of major cities and trendy suburbs. I am not a fan of most flats but I do appreciate style and comfort...as we enter into the winter months, warm boots are essential, however these same boots can be worn in to the spring and fall!! Pair your boots with floral dress for spring.. A dress with a lot of volume and color.. A long baby doll dress or super short one revealing some flesh above the knee while the boots cover everything below the knee...flirty and sexy...for those of us who simply MUST have a heel with all shoes, opt for the long dress or short shorts with your sky high boots...again nothing too tight a fit...u will border on looking like a lady of the night...never a good look, even if u r one. ;)
For those of u having trouble finding boots that fit your leg (the boot leg is too narrow in the calf) a la serena williams- there is a new design and feature to riding boots...some designers have incorporated a second zipper at the top of leg opening that can be adjusted to fit your leg..also try slouchy boots... These boots give (stretch) more without looking bulky.. For those with the opposite problem ( the boot leg is too wide) a la fisherman boots- try showing off your boots over your fav skinny or straght leg jean or pant! tucking in the pant leg will provide more volume.... the mouth of some most leather and suede boots can be altered to fit your leg...some designers like Charles David offer a narrower leg to accommodate those that are calf challenged like myself...

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes!!

during these dire economic times, most people are not running out to the shops to purchase the latest trends or to replace any classic staples...even if you can afford them....may i suggest keeping your irreplaceable and expensive items looking new by going the extra mile for proper maintenance? you can take your wardrobe to the dry cleaners or hand wash them in woolite but what about your shoes? replacing shoes can be more costly than any part of your wardrobe...for men and women...City Slippers from designer johan ringlad who brought you swims (for men)did just that....city slippers will protect anything from your ballet slipper to your high heels from the rain, muck and pounding the city pavement..you slip them over the bottom of your shoes like galoshes and are barely noticeable (unless you want them to be) they come in a variety of colors and different sizes (from 1" to 4" heels)...cs retail from $110 - $160...a wise investment when you are wearing $500 shoes and running late for date and have to walk 4 blocks to meet him! You can pick these up at saks or bloomingdales...check them out and let me know what you think

Accessories are necessities

one thing that i peruse and shop for all the time are accessories...anything from jewelry to scarves and sunglasses!! you will be amazed by how quickly you can transform one look to another another by changing your earrings, adding a necklace and hat!! and a big trend for this fall is opaque stockings and tights!! Fashion houses are mad about taking traditional hosiery and making it with very bright colors and trendy patterns....I LOVE IT!!!....this can quickly update that little black dress or simple wrap dress for a night out on the town, a hot date or even to work..now ladies..please do not confuse this with panty hose...I do not want to see any unsightly panty hose seams sticking out of your of your shoes! anything that is transparent does not apply!

You can also update your old jewelry by wearing it in a new way..wrap your dainty necklace around your wrist for a new twist..since it is the close of summer and we are going to be covering our toes, you can take those toe rings and slide them on a necklace to wear as a charm....wear things year round...get some mileage out of your pieces...

my favorite accessory is a scarf...i like to wear one everyday..i can go on and on (but i won't) about the many many ways you can wear scarves...on your head, in your hair (yes that's a different way), on your wrist, as a belt, around your neck...try them all (but one at a time please)...there is more than one way to feed a model! and speaking of around your neck..i am getting sick to my stomach of seeing these little fashionistas with these over-sized fringed bandanas around their neck...enough already...and they do not match! i don't care what you have seen in the mags!!! -

Best Shoe First

I understand the frustrations that ladies probably go through when shopping for an outfit for a particular occassion or nite out...you find a great top but can't seem to find the right skirt to match, or pant to pair it with...or you have a sensational dress but the search is endless for the right accessory or shoe to pull off the 'look' you are going for...in my experience, i find it easier to browse the shoe dept or shops first (and i am not just saying this because of my shoe obsession!) no matter what the occassion, the shoe dept or shoe shops have a variety of shoes with numerous moods in a relatively small area...you can find the 'look' you want in the shoe almost immediately which will set the mood for the outfit...for example, if a pair of sexy, stacked-heeled, patent slingbacks catch your eye...obviously you are going in for the kill and want to be the showstopper of the evening....you must go for the jaw-dropping, barely there dress or super-skinny, used-baby-oil-and-crisco-to-get-into-jeans! which you may already have in your wardrobe (which would be even better)...certain shoes will also eliminate wardrobe options for you...for example above you wouldn't pair those same slingbacks with a loose (a-line) floral sun dress that comes down to your ankle...i hope not anyway...merci
